THE PEAK DISTRICT

The Peak District is one of the most beautiful areas of England - and makes the perfect destination for an action-packed adventure or cozy escape. It is split into the rolling moorlands of the Dark Peak, and the stunning limestone area of the White Peak.

In 1951, the Peak District National Park became the first national park in the United Kingdom, and surrounded by the cities of Sheffield, Manchester and Derby, it attracts millions of visitors every year.

As well as wildlife and dramatic scenery, the area also has an important industrial history. You can visit quarries and

cotton mills, and see evidence of the mining boom in the Castleton show-caves.

Tourism however, is now the its largest industry. The beautiful country homes and quaint villages are perfect pit-stops amongst the popular network of public footpaths, cycle trails, rock climbing and caving adventures.

Whether you want to curl up by the fires of Bakewell pubs, or take in the breathtaking views from the top of Mam Tor, these are our recommendations to make the most of your time in the Peaks.

Bakewell

Sample the world-famous Bakewell tart and pudding in the jumble of traditional bakeries.

Feast on fish & chips or treat yourself to an ice cream by the River Wye.

If visiting in Summer, set up camp in one of the many beer gardens, or cozy up by any of the pubs roaring fires in the colder months.

For a unique shopping experience, stop by on a Monday which is market day.
